Ranch 2006next page In July, several members of the family and some friends went to the ranch out by Kerrville (the one we get to go to every few years). This was Lila's second trip to the ranch, the first since she's been walking, so it was a great trip for everyone. Here are some non-Lila photos from our long weekend in the Hill Country.
![]() Kat, JR, Michael and I went horseback riding our third morning there. It was HOT AS ANYTHING, but we still had a really nice time. Even though I've been riding horses actively since I was 14 or 15, I had a "horse first" while I was there. I've never been on an Arabian horse before, and in the two years since I'd been back, the ranch had acquired an Arabian. !!! When she was just standing around in the corral, or loose in the brush, she didn't look like much, but when I got on her, it was like riding a little bit of rocket. I have never ridden a horse so responsive. The ranch foreman said she was "hot blooded". I agree. This is the only photo we got that kind of shows you what a spectacular horse she is. You can see she's wet with sweat from our riding that morning. We're on our way back to the barn here.
Michael & JR on their horses.
JR was raised around horses. Unless I'm misremembering, his father raised and trained Tenessee Walking Horses, the kind that race carts. I might be making that up. :) Regardless, JR is very comfortable around horses.
Kat on horseback. I think this is a great photo. Kat has been taking riding lessons in CA. I think she really enjoyed her time riding at the ranch.
