Our first day, JR, Michael & I went horseback riding. It was a BLAST. Usually, the weather is so hot that it's not much fun for horse or rider to go out in it, but it was SO NICE that whole weekend that we all had fun. Later in the weekend, we visited a cave on the property and got some cool photos. Enjoy!
Me on horseback. My horse's name is "Susie". She was really well-behaved, except that she had a little friend horse back at the barn and she REALLY wanted to go see her and DIDN'T want to leave her at all. I LOVE horses. Remind me some day to tell you about my horse when I was a teenager. It's a good story. :)
Michael on his horse, "Chief". Michael hadn't ridden in years and he did a SUPER job. Horses can tell when you don't know what you're doing, and his horse didn't give him any trouble.
JR on his horse - I don't know his name!! JR grew up around fancy-schmancy horses (I believe those Tennesee Walker horses that pull buggies, but I could be making that up), so he knows his way around a horse.
Up on the hill (the one I told you to look for in this photo from the page before). Lane took this of us.
Heading back. Again, Lane took this from the porch FAR above.
Rounding the corner, headed for the gate.
Crossing the river beneath the first dam (you can see it in the photos on the prior page). JR was kind enough to be our "gate man".
A closeup of the photo above.
Michael and Chief, back at the house, waiting for Lila to get her photo taken with me on my horse. I LOVE this photo.
NOW, to totally switch gears, I bring you the cave. It's just a piddly little cave, but it's full of bats and it's about 15 degrees cooler than the surface and it's cool to us. :) I'm pretty sure Daddy is the only one who can find it - at least I've never tried to find it. :) I rely on him!
Inside the cave. Creepy green stuff on the ceilings. Bat guano (poo) on the ground.
Stalactites and stalagmites. I still remember in school when they taught us that stalactites hang "tight" to the ceiling, which is how you can remember which is which. This is a "dead" cave. Nothing drips here to make it grow anymore, unless there are parts way back that are still alive. ??? Regardless, it's cool!!
