Hair Update - July 2005

I have decided to do something SHOCKING. For those who haven't known me for very long (and even for some who have known me forever), you may not know that I have been coloring my hair one color or another since roughly 6th grade (that's around 24 years or so ago). I have been mostly blonde or red, with blue, purple, majenta, black, pink and brown smattered in there over the years, but there is one color I have never been in all of those 24 years....my NATURAL color. Since, after all this time, I can only make assumptions about my natural hair color (and any grey hairs I might have), I have assumed for years that it is a variation of dark blonde, not brown, but somewhere on the blonde side of that.

So, I have declared this summer to be the Summer of Growing Out My Hair to its Natural Color. I already have about an inch and 1/2 of growth, and in places, because my hair is so short, I have more natural color than fake (and in the back, where it is buzzed, I think it's 100% natural). I figure by the end of the summer, I'll have only the smallest tips of colored hair at the front. Look for more hair updates then. :) I'll be coloring it again by fall, never fear, but I just thought this would be an interesting way to spend the summer.

Sondra has already bandied about the term "dark brown" about my natural color hair - SHUT UP, is what I say. ;) I'll be really surprised if I end up really dark; my mom's hair is very dark, and my natural color (what I can see of it so far) is much lighter than that. Maybe not exactly dark blonde, but possibly a mousey brown....???

With my hair this short, I am remembering the best part of having short hair: cutting it myself!!! Often, I bring out the clippers, and I'm almost always cutting at it one way or another. It's lovely, seeing the butter-colored hair fall into the sink and MY do I love the sound of the clippers buzzing. Buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!

I predict very, very short hair by the end of the summer. Maybe even buzzed. Am I too old for that already? Possibly. Certainly before I'm 40 it needs to be done one last time.

Thoughts of my hair keep me up at night. :)

Here are some photos from my latest hair....much shorter than where I started about four months ago. To be honest with you, it's actually shorter than this, only four days later. STOP ME BEFORE I CUT AGAIN!!! ;)
