European Honeymoon 1999 - Paris

And now we have some photos (just a few) from the Treasure Room at Notre Dam. It was VERY COOL. I can't imagine the worth of all the treasure we saw. It's hard to imagine that it's all real gold and jewels.

This is a closeup shot of the base of the Reliquary for the Crown of Thorns. If I am understanding it correctly, they claim to have Christ's actual crown of thorns in this container. I don't know how they can know that, but it was still a very pretty statue.

This is only the tiniest portion of the base of the VERY TALL (6 feet?) Great Reliquary Cross. I loved the cherubs kissing the shroud with Jesus's face on it. I thought it was an amazingly beautiful and creative thing to have carved.

And then a very poor photo of what comes above the cherubs, and that's the angel of death! How creepy! I know this all certainly means something, but I don't know, so I'm not guessing. Above this, what you can't see, is a giant, ivory crucifix.

This was my favorite thing in the Treasure Room: the Crown for the Virgin, done in lapis and pearls and diamonds. I LOVED the crown made up of the angels' wings. SO BEAUTIFUL. This photo doesn't come close to doing it justice.

A closeup of the angels.
