European Honeymoon 1999 - Germany, Phase One & Phase Three

next page

Here we are somewhere in Germany, either at the aforementioned Heidelburg Castle or at Marburg, the place we visited during Phase One with Jill. One of the reasons I'm having a hard time differentiating between all these photos is that we're WEARING THE SAME CLOTHES in all of them!!

Now I know this is Heidelburg. At night, they light it up in fire-colored lights. It's called Schloss in Flammen. I believe that means "Castle in Flames" or "Castle on Fire".

At last, we reach a photo of Jill. We used to go out and do all the clubs when she lived here. She and JR and I were thick like thieves. We used to lust after blues guitarists and drink until the wee hours. Ah, the old days. :) (ps. how much are you digging my hat?) On the day we spent just with her family, we had a fine time hanging out. We walked Andreas to school, mailed home some books that Lane and I had finished reading but didn't want to lug around with us anymore and went to Marburg, a neat little college town that reminded me of my hometown in Texas. We went to a WONDERFUL restaurant in Bad Nauheim called "Zur Krone" ("To the Crown") and I ate goose for the very first time. It was delicious!! I also had the best salad I'd ever had, Feldsalat (field greens) with potato and ham dressing. They wouldn't give me the recipe!! Drat! (We also saw this fantastic sex catalog called Beate Uhse - be careful, probably not safe for work....Lane and I tracked down one of her shops and visited! It wasn't so raunchy, and I loved going! (Oh, and the name is pronounced "bee-AHT-uh OOO-zuh". I think Beate is German for Beatrice, but I could be wrong.)

JR and Jill, in front of one of the GIANT casks of wine. This is a good photo of Jill, but not so much of JR.

So I remedy that by posting a good photo of JR and a not-so-good one of Jill. :) JR was so happy to see Jill (and vice versa, I think!). It was so nice we could all hook up again.

Me in front of a part of the castle that was accidentally bombed by the Americans. :( Bombs are bad. :(

Lane, looking very magestic in front of the castle.

I swear, I can't remember if this was Marburg or Heidelburg, but it's a statue of a woman, a saint, I believe, killing a dragon that terrorized the city. OK, that's what I had THOUGHT it was, but as I look closer at it, it really looks like Mary holding Jesus, doesn't it? OK, Rene or Jill, help me out here....

Now this I know is Marburg. Here's me, Jill and Guenter. It was a really lovely day, not as cold as it had been.

Rene and me, beneath Heidelburg (actually right by where those springy car things were that the kids were enjoying). Rene is making a funny face. Forgive her! :)

Michael and JR in the same courtyard area. I love this tree! So did JR, so that's why we took the photo!
