European Honeymoon 1999 - Amsterdam

first page

And now we reach Amsterdam, into our fourth week of Lane's and my being within six feet of one another at all times. We had turned in our car in Paris (and let me tell you, if your marriage can survive you driving and your husband navigating through France and Germany with no maps in English, you can get through anything). I was sick of travelling, sick of Europe, very wanting to go home. I know that sounds really spoiled, my whining about how I don't want to visit Amsterdam, but that's how I felt. We should go back and only go there, because I bet it was beautiful and we didn't see very much of it because we were both so tired.

This is the top of our desk in the hotel. It's full of so many things we picked up in our pockets along the way. We stayed in the Red Light district at this little HOLE of an inexpensive place. Everything was bolted down and you didn't even have a phone in your room!!

The one cool thing about being at this hotel was that it was right by this amazing church tower that chimed every hour with the most beautiful chimes. JR had gotten them on tape on his Gizmo for me, but somehow they got erased. If you're reading this and you're in Amsterdam and you know what church this is, please send me the chimes! I miss them!!

JR and Michael joined us in Amsterdam. They had a really good visit. We at a lot of really good food (possibly the best of our trip, if you can believe that), and did a LOT of shopping. I shopped a lot in Amsterdam. More than anywhere else on the trip. I think it was my way of battling depression, but what the heck, I also knew I didn't have to lug it around anymore, not like in London, where I knew if I bought something, it was going with me to Paris, Germany and Amsterdam too!

This is the final photo in Amsterdam. We're in the train station waiting to go back to Paris to fly home. I am sick, tired and starting to be annoyed with Lane. (I swear, we came home and SCATTERED to different parts of the house.) I think the look on my face says it all. I don't ever want to wear this coat again, or my scarf or my gloves or my hat. I want to wear new clothes!!

Thus ends our European Honeymoon Oddessy. :) It was fun, I'd do it again, but I'd cut it by a week and squish more in. Next time, we want to go to Greece, Italy or Southern France. We're taking sponsors. ;)
