Carnaval 2007 - mostly me!

I love this photo that Lane took at Carnaval itself. The movement, the light, it's really how I kind of feel at Carnaval. All smiles, all laughter, with the blur of people going by.

It's become sort of a tradition for Lane and me to go next door to our neighbors, KC & Jim, and show off our costumes every year. Jim's birthday is right around that weekend, and we stop by, pose for photos and share a good laugh. Here I am in front of their fireplace.

I'd like to interject here that I still love love my boots (Funkefeet!) with all my heart. Without them, my Carnaval would be desperately uncomfortable and I would be extremely short in stature! I had a girl come up to me and recognize me solely from my shoes this year!! I thought that was the coolest thing. My shoes are famous!! :)

Happy, happy Carnaval.

Fabulous photo in the driveway. Lane rocks.

Jennifer took this photo of me in the cab with the lights from my headdress reflecting on my face. We were laughing and already making plans for next year. I love the joy in this photo.

Silliness!

What I really wanted was to have a photo of me with the little masks on my wrists next to my face, but, guess what, turns out my arm doesn't bend that way! LOL! So I had to make do with this pose. Not as cool, but oh, well. I still have some thoughts about putting the masks on the other way around and taking some photos, but that'll have to wait. Probably until never, but it's in my head!!

This is right after we arrived at Carnaval, with Leighton Hodges interviewing Jennifer and me for his documentary. One of the first questions he asked me was "how long did it take to make [my] costume" and do you know that I hadn't the SLIGHTEST CLUE and had to figure it up later. Answer: approximately 100 hours. Next year, I'll know the answer in case someone asks me again!

Here's what I was looking at. Leighton is in the white shirt holding the cord. He's super nice. I never got to see the completed documentary, but hopefully I will someday!

This is one of the only views of the back of my headdress. My original intention had been to totally cover the back portion of my headdress with the tiny, gold jinglebells, but the back of my headdress is always the last last last thing I do, so it always suffers from my inattention. I threw together some bells knotted on red ribbon and swagged (and glued in places) across the back. I think it turned out pretty well. I did make a very pretty noise when I walked.

I think I've mentioned already how few people went with us (ie, essentially just Jennifer) so we went from having four (or more!) camera in our crew to having only the one: ours. So who do you think was holding the camera and taking most of the photos? You guessed it: Lane. So I have a tiny handful of photos of Lane, and here is one of them. Lane wore a hat loaned to us by Loyd, and the little balls on the end lit up and blinked. It was really cool. I love the green green mask; it really photographs well.

To Lane's chagrin, I am going to mention that he shaved his whole chest for the first time in, probably, EVER. He looked like a naked little baby with his white, smooth skin. :) Awwwwww, Lane! I think it looked good, but it was hell to maintain, and then it itched like crazy to grow back. I think he thought it was worth it; we'll see if he does it again next year!

Lane hates this photo because his eyes are all squinty, but the mask kept making him blink funny. I think he only wore it for part of the evening.

I think the only photo of the two of us together, taken by Neighbor Jim. Thanks, Jim!!
