Carnaval 2006 - At the Hotel (aka "Freaking the Mundanes")

next page

Launching from the hotel worked out GREAT. Not only did we have a base of operations to do last-minute makeupping and adjusting of our costumes, but we had a WONDERFUL backdrop for our photographs in the hotel lobby and behind the hotel in front of the river with the city skyline behind us. We got many strange looks, a lot of smiles, and people just generally telling us how fab we were. What always amuses me, though, is the number of people who avoid eye contact AT ALL COST. They don't even acknowledge that you're standing there, half naked with a HIVE ON YOUR HEAD. It's like, are you THAT bothered by something as fun as this?? It reminds me of something that SCA folks used to do, like go into a grocery store in full costume, and "freak the mundanes". :) I still say that in my head if I end up somewhere really mainstream, like pumping gas, in some kind of crazy get-up. LOOSEN UP, PEOPLE!!! :)

All the girls together.

Mooning the camera in the hotel room. We LOVED flashing people a little booty. Next year, Jennifer will have to have MORE BOOTY to flash. :)

Inside, posing on rocks. I had to have help getting up and down. I'm lucky I didn't fall in their indoor stream and ruin everything!!

J9 and Jennifer - doesn't their makeup look fantastic??

J9 and Chrystal - again, GREAT MAKEUP!!

Chrystal's and J9's shoes. Both girls covered shoes with fabric, glitter, fringe, feathers, trim: whatever they could get their hands on to make comfortable shoes FABULOUS! This just goes to show you what you can do if you start getting creative!

One more full-length shot in the hotel room.

Booty in the lobby!!

I actually think this is one of my favorite photos of all of us. I think Will took it, and we're walking from the hotel to Carnaval (about a quarter of a mile), all of us just prancing about. I love Chrystal with her arms outspread and J9 looking back at us and smiling. This is a great photo. :)
