Carnaval 2004
So, it's Carnaval again, if you can believe that. It's SO FREAKY to me that this time last year I was one week pregnant with Lila and didn't yet know it. We had such a good time last year; J9 and I had a BLAST making our costumes (browse the pages linked above in the menus under FAB PHOTOS if you've never seen them) and it was one of the best Carnavals EVER, if you ask me. :) This year, however, my situation is a little different, as you can imagine. I am short on funds, I don't have the figure I'd like OR THE TIME to do the costume I'd like, and I'm still feeling Lila's birth, especially in the ligaments of my legs, so Lane and I talked it over and decided not to go this year. Lila is still so young (15 weeks!) and I think it's better that we stay home. Like I told J9, if I can't do the costume I want and be as FAB as I really know I can be, I just won't have a very good time - ESPECIALLY after I got caught up in J9's costume this year - which you will see soon!
Cara and her sister got a hotel room this year, and J9 asked me to come and take photos, and I agreed. I was sort of kvetching to Sondra about how sad I would be going and not being in costume and she told me I should dress up a little anyway, just as though I were going out on the town - but extra fabulous. You may think it's a little nuts to get all dressed up only for some photos, but I thought this was a GREAT idea, and I felt a ton better about it all immediately. So, not only did I dress up a bit, but SO DID LILA!!! :) I hope you enjoy these photos.
With my braids in the hallway of the hotel. I like to title my costume "Dana's Corset Holds On For Dear Life". :) The braid I used on the wig is called "herringbone"; it's one of my favorite types of braids, but I can't do it on myself, only on someone else, so a wig is easy!
A good closeup of my makeup before we left for the hotel. My whole color pallette came from the wig - and the wig came from Lila's costume - more on that later.
I am WAY pleased with how my eyes came out, so you get to see them WAY CLOSE UP! Yes, I'm wearing top AND bottom fake eyelashes. Fake eyelashes ROCK. (WAIT UNTIL YOU SEE J9!!!)
This is my best "Drag Queen With Attitude" pose. :) Drag Queens ROCK. (Am I saying "rock" too much?) Did I mention how my corset was barely hanging on?! I must say it's a good corset. I got it from Victoria's Secret years ago and it's seen a LOT of wear, not just by me but by my friends. I can highly recommend that you shop there!
