In the Backyard - Our Bradford Pear, December 2006

Our Bradford Pear tree REALLY took off this year. It grew HUGE over the summer, and when it finally, finally turned in December, there was a glorious explosion of brightly colored leaves, before they all dropped to the ground about a week later. We were lucky enough to get some great shots of the tree and the leaves after they dropped.

Before and after - it was literally just a matter of days between when we took the original photos and when they all fell to the ground. I remember I felt so grateful that we had taken the few of the tree with the glorious orangey-pink color before they were all on the ground.

In late November each year, Lane puts up a greenhouse surrounding our back porch running across the door to the garage. Once it goes up, we almost never go out of it and into the yard. Being inside the greenhouse gives me comfort and a sense of warmth. The light is all filtered and soft. When we do venture outside, it's feels like I'm walking on the surface of the moon. It's alien and strange and still and a little disconcerting. However, when the weather changes in the spring and we take the greenhouse down, it's GLORIOUS to have the light and the sun come back into the house and see the life returning to the porch plants as everything thrives.

So this year, we noticed these initial orange leaves while looking from the front yard over the top of our roof, to the tree in the backyard. We were both "look at the tree!" and I think got photos within 24 hours or so. Then the leaves all fell and we felt really fortunate. I think I'll try to make it outside more often next winter. I don't want to miss this next year.

Up in the branches. Gorgeous color!

Still just a few green leaves, so lovely against the yellow and orange.

I love the delicate veining on these leaves. They almost look like little gold coins against the sky.

Leaves on the grass.

More leaves!

Leaves leading up to the tree. I especially enjoy the perspective of this shot.

Lovely, just lovely. :) Lane took most of these photos. I think he did a great job.

Lane also took these two photos of a tiny set of wind chimes and a little decorative shiney thing Suzy gave to us. I love how abstract they are.

Very interesting shot of a blue lamp we have. It almost looks broken on the inside, but it's not; it's reflecting part of the porch.

Part of a wing on a dove I have decorating the back porch.
