This is me

As I write this (January 2004), this is my life:

This is me. My hair is longer now, and I was very pregnant in this photo, but you get the idea. My name is Dana, and I live in central Texas. I love it here - the majority of my immediate family and friends live here - and I am loving my life. I get email periodically from folks who stop by my site, and I got one several months ago that said "your life is beautiful, like a dream" and I had to stop and agree, though I'd never thought of it that way. I have a wonderful family - a 12 week old baby girl, a wonderful husband, loving pets and some of the best friends I could ever hope to find.

My website is HUGE; I started it back in 1996 and I almost NEVER take anything down, so you're going to find a lot of info here (somewhere in the neighborhood of 100MG, actually). I have developed a tendency to chronicle my life in quite a bit of detail online, especially my recent pregnancy. You might find this strange, but I actually enjoy it and like the visual path it leaves of my life. Also, since I'm a graphic designer/webmaster by trade, it works great for me to have a website. :)

Many of the pages don't seem to fit in one category or another, as I tend to post things chronologically. If you were to start with my "What's New" section and work your way backwards, you'd eventually get to mid 1997, when I started updating my site regularly. I've tried to make sense of all the pages and have placed navigation at the top of each page. The main topnav will take you to the other sections of my site; the second topnav will navigate you through each subsection with full descriptors of the pages. Give it a shot, you'll figure it out. Oh, and I'm sorry for you if you're on dialup. My site is DEFINITELY designed for high bandwidth and nice, big monitors. :)

With regard to my domain name (only-zuul), no, I'm not a demon worshipper (though I do get a kick out of the folks who email me asking that)....think back to the movie "Ghostbusters". Remember the Sigourney Weaver character, Dana? She's all possessed and writhing on the bed and Bill Murry (or was it Harold Ramis?) says to her "I want to talk to Dana. Let me talk to Dana." and she's all demony and says in this crazy, deep voice "There is no Dana, there is only Zuul!". Well, there is no Dana, there is ONLY ZUUL! :) Or, in this case, only-zuul. :)

I highly recommend the Family & Friends/FAB Photos section. There's lots of fun stuff there. If you think you're missing something, head to the sitemap and just go page by page. You can also do a keyword search of my entire site if you're looking for one thing or another. If you want to learn more about what I think, as opposed to just plowing through photos and reading captions, you can go here. I also have a new page of some (ok, well, A LOT) of quotations that are meaningful to me. Feel free to check them out! If not, just read on!

I love costumes. I love makeup. I LOVE wigs and I LOVE Halloween. I like shaking things up as far as how I look. I used to cut and color my hair more, but I've had it mostly red for the last several years. I'm actually a natural blonde, but I like it better red, so that's what I tend to stick with. (The answer to the inevitable question about my eyebrows is: I don't dye them, I tint them with eyeshadow and an angled brush.) The above collage is of some of my many looks over the last several years. PLEASE visit my FAB Photos section. You won't be disappointed. Carnaval and Halloween are wonderful things to look at! Don't be thrown by the fact that some of the pages/events are years old. Some of my best looks happened three or four years ago. :)

I'm married (almost 6 years now) to Lane. We met when I was 12 and he was one of my brother's friends from high school. We weren't friends ourselves until my early 20s, when we started hanging out. We started dating in 1996 and got married in 1998. The wedding photos are online if you'd like to see them. You can read more about Lane here.

This is our precious daughter, Lila. She's 9 weeks old and oh-so-cute in these photos. She's older now (duh) and probably WAY older by the time you're reading this. I suggest you head to the Lila section if you want to see what she's up to lately.

I also have a two cats, two dogs and one bird. You can learn more about them in my puppies & pets section. This is one of my favorite areas of my site, as I LOVE my pets and take way too many photos of them. :) I love my furry and feathered friends! :)

Basically, just have fun surfing. If you start, you're liable to be here for a while. I hope you have a good time. If you want, and let me know what you think. I'd love to hear from you. Read below to learn more about my site, or just START SURFING! :)

If you've enjoyed your time here, I'd appreciate any help to keep my site afloat!

P.S. - About My Site

This site is mostly about my friends and family and life. I've been working on it sporadically (read: in obsessive bursts) since early 1996. I have a ton of pictures that have accumulated over the years, so please enjoy them (this site is, total, over 100 MG worth of stuff). My photos are getting larger and larger as I continue to work on the site. I'm starting to care much more about the details of the photos and less about connection speed. I'm very, very sorry if you're viewing my site on a modem. It's going to be a long, slow visit for you, and maybe you ought to visit me again, maybe from work? ;)

If you're not into photos of other people, you can go see original art, poetry or movies in the Galleries section, or you can browse my links page for other places to go online than just here!

In trying to make traveling through my site as painless as possible, I've added javascript menus at the top of each page. I've also added a pull-down menu at the bottom of most pages that will allow you to quickly access other sections of the site. Just click on the menu, make your choice, and you're off! There's also the SITE MAP if you get really lost and just have no idea where you are!

Also, and something that might affect you, I've password protected the bulk of the new photos of Lila (my daughter) from 2004 forward. If you're a stranger to me, you'll still be able to see occasional photos on her page and text updates about her on this page, but the great majority of the new photos will now be restricted to my family and friends. I hope you can understand. It's one thing to have my life on parade, but it's another to have my daughter's out there. If you're a friend or family member who has forgotten the password I sent you, or if I missed you when I went to send it out, and let me know and I'll get you the info you need immediately! Thank you for understanding!

I dedicate this page to the memory of my dear friend, Wilson Paul Stafford, who died of AIDS August 18, 1996 (I still can't believe it's been that long). Paul was a light spirit, full of riotous energy and the dirtiest mind I've had the pleasure of knowing. I will always miss him.

Please and let me know what you think of my site. If you'd like to return someday, just bookmark this page and as things change, I'll update them here.

BTW, I have some things I need help with. Please take a look!
