Grits!

Grits is our second Boston Terrier son. As of this writing (January 2004), Grits is three years old. We got him to keep Pitter company (you should NEVER have only one dog unless your dog can be with you 24/7, I believe) and we're so glad we did. He's a joy. He's smart, but not very focused, so if he's paying attention, he'll do what you say, but if there's, say, a cat or a squirrel outside, good luck getting him to come. He loves to play, mostly with whatever toy Pitter wants, because he loves to have Pitter chase him. He loves to give kisses and to chase cats and squirrels, who taunt him constantly (IN HIS HEAD!). He isn't thrilled about swimming in water, but will eventually play with the hose on a hot day and will lounge about in the baby pool when he's been running about. He KILLS large balls with a ravenous rage.

Grits loves "Ape Ape" like Pitter loves "Big Dog". He sucks on Ape Ape's head to go to sleep and can't do without him - we think he learned this from watching Pitter. The problem is that when Pitter can't find Big Dog, Pitter goes to Ape Ape, like that's his toy, and we worry what's going to happen when Big Dog finally dies. We may have to upgrade Ape Ape to Pitter's and get Grits a new toy!

Grits' full name is "Tubby Grits Tribbleman". We named him "Tubby" because he was SO TUBBY as a baby. Grits came from my discovery the months before we got him that I LOVED to eat grits. I would shout "grits!" to Lane and he'd shout it back and I guess we just got used to shouting it. :) "Tribbleman" came from his early growls that sounded just like a Tribble from Star Trek. TOO CUTE. I picked Grits from a little of pups because he was the first one to kiss me on command. I didn't notice his HUGE PAWS - he turned out to be 26 pounds, larger than either of his parents. When he was a puppy, his ears were too big for him to hold up, so they folded back, but now he's got BAT EARS that stand up all the time.

Grits loves his crate and to sleep under the covers with us when we give him the opportunity. Pitter is Grits' favorite person. Grits loves Lila and thinks her toes taste like candy. He's our horse. We love him.
